  7. Welcome to "World Works" for Apple Macintosh computers.
  8.  
  9. This READ ME file contains notes for the "World Works" installation as well as hints and comments on some navigational issues and problems that can occur but can be easily avoided.

  13. INSTALLATION OF PRODUCT:

  20. There are Three ways to set up the product to run on your Macintosh computer.
  21.  
  22. 1. THE SIMPLEST, BUT THE SLOWEST RUNNING:
  23.  
  24.    a. First you must install QuickTime™ into your system by dragging the QuickTime Icon from the CD to your system folder (fig. 2 ) and reboot your system.

  42.  b. Now you can run the application by double clicking on the 
  43.       World Works 1.0 icon (fig. 1) on the CD.

  45. 2. MINIMUM HARD DRIVE SPACE BUT RUNS A LITTLE FASTER:

  47.    a. Double click on Installer (fig. 3) on the CD and click customize. (fig. 4)
  48.       Choose the minimum disk space installation option and click install (fig. 5).

  98.       This will put a folder called World Works on your hard drive and copy QuickTime into your system's Extensions folder (Note: If you are installing to a drive other than the boot drive, the QuickTime extension file should be placed in the Extensions folder on your boot drive as in Step 1a above).

  100.    b. To Run the application, Open the folder named "World Works" on your hard drive and double click on the program icon "World Works 1.0" (fig. 1).

  103. 3. OPTIMUM INSTALLATION (Fastest Operation, and a bit of hard drive space taken)
  104.    This will install 2 to 3 megabytes of data on your hard drive.  This data is the resource files most often asked for by World Works.  Having them on your hard drive will result in faster operation of the program than either option 1 or option 2 mentioned above.

  106. a. Double click on Installer on the CD and click on the Install button ( fig 6).

  112.       This will put a folder called World Works on your hard drive and copy QuickTime into your systems Extensions folder (Note: If you are installing to a drive other than the boot drive, the QuickTime extension file should be placed in the Extensions folder on your boot drive as in Step 1a above).

  114.    b. To Run the application, open the folder World Works on your hard drive and double click on the Program icon World Works 1.0 (fig 1)

  116. 4. INSTALLATION FOR THE FASTEST POSSIBLE RUNNING SPEED 
  117.    ( you need a big disk for this!)

  119. a. Copy the entire contents of the CD (fig 7) to a folder on your hard drive. This will run all resources need for operation of World Works from you hard drive but this will require about 450 megabytes to 500 megabytes. (Check the size of the total data on the CD with the Finder File: Get Information command for the CD before you try to copy it.)

  126.  b. Just double click on the World Works 1.0 Icon on your hard drive to run program - the entire program will now run from your hard drive.

  129.  KNOWN IRREGULARITIES OF RUNNING THE PROGRAM:
  130.  
  131.  1. When playing a quicktime movie you may experience jerky playback on the video or sound if you have other applications running at the same time.  We recommend you run World Works without any other applications open.
  132.  
  133.  2. There are a variety of inits and system things that may also impact movie playback.  Among them are calculating folder sizes in the views control panel, virtual memory on in the memory control panel, disk compactors, etc.  If you are getting unsatisfactory movie playback turn them all off.

  135.     NOTE:  We don't have every init in the world to test so if you experience a problem with a particular init please give us a call at (310) 841-2790 so that we can make a note of it.

  137.  3. We have found that Keycaps (as an init) can occasionally lock the Shift key down.  This has a negative impact on the functionality of the program so if you experience that problem disable Keycaps.

  139.  4. The default printer setting is for an ImageWriter.  If you have a LaserWriter or some other kind of printer be sure that it has been fully selected using the chooser before you try to print.  If your printer has not been properly selected, you will get a printing error.

  141.  5. We have tested the product on a large screen but not super extensively.  If you experience any problems related to a large screen display or special video card please let us know so that we can correct it in future releases.

  143.  6. If you have a high speed machine (68040) and a 24bit color card you can run the program in millions of colors and this will help to smooth out the movies.  If you have a slower machine you can try running it in millions of colors but it may drop frames in the video as your processor will be tied up calculating colors instead of playing frames...
